Arizona House gives final approval to pro-gun bill

PHOENIX — The Arizona House of Representatives gave final approval to
a bill that would allow law enforcement to charge someone who wrests a gun from
another person’s hands with aggravated assault.

Proponents said House Bill 2338 is a preventive measure in case a criminal
were to take the gun of someone using it in self-defense. It would allow
authorities to charge a person who’s accused of wresting a gun away from someone
else with aggravated assault. Doing so is already a felony offense.

Democrats said the measure by Republican Rep. Brenda Barton of Payson is a waste
of time because it rehashes what’s already a crime. The Senate approved the bill
this week.

The House gave final approval with a 40-17 vote. It will go to
the governor’s office for consideration. Gov. Jan Brewer has already signed one pro-gun bill.
