PHOENIX — A federal judge presiding over a racial profiling case against
the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office has scheduled an April 3 status conference
in the case.
U.S. District Judge Murray Snow took Sheriff Joe Arpaio and his top aide to task on
Monday for mischaracterizing findings.
Ten months ago, Snow concluded Arpaio’s office systematically racially profiled
Latinos in its immigration and regular traffic patrols and unreasonably
prolonged the detentions of people during traffic stops.
Arpaio has vigorously denied the racial profiling allegations and appealed the
Snow said there are complaints that MCSO is providing inaccurate information on
Lawyers on both sides have been ordered to summarize Snow’s rulings and put
those statements in a letter that Arpaio and his chief deputy will sign and give
to all MCSO employees.
