PHOENIX — Federal investigators say an Oklahoma man is in custody after
mailing a package with explosives to Sheriff Joe Arpaio in Arizona last year.
U.S. Postal Service officials said Tuesday that 55-year-old Gregory Lynn
Shrader is accused of sending the package addressed to the Maricopa County
Investigators say the package was discovered April 11 in a Postal Service
collection box unit in northern Arizona.
Authorities originally said the package appeared to contain an improvised
explosive device that could have led to serious injuries or death if it was
opened. But investigators later determined the device was inoperable.
Shrader was arrested last Thursday after FBI agents and postal inspectors
executed a search warrant at his home in Jay, Okla.
The allegations against him are outlined in a nine-page criminal complaint.
