TUCSON, Ariz. — Medical marijuana dispensaries faced with municipalities’
limits on sizes of growing operations in the Tucson area are turning to Phoenix

Tucson area is limited to 2,000 or 3,000 square feet, depending on the
Industry consultant Dimitri Downing said that means the jobs associated with
growing medical marijuana are going to the Phoenix area, where much larger
facilities are permitted and opening.
Deputy County Attorney Tom Rankin said the limits imposed by Pima County make
sense for the number of medical marijuana users involved.
Tucson Planning and Development Director Ernie Duarte said the city wanted to
keep cultivation sites small but left it open to expand later.
