Woman killed in crash near canyon’s entrance ID’d

GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Ariz. — Authorities say a woman who died in
last week’s car accident near the south entrance to Grand Canyon National Park
was from China.

The Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as
24-year-old Yuan Gao.

Her hometown in China wasn’t immediately released Tuesday.

Park officials say a sedan and pickup truck collided Friday afternoon about
three miles north of the park’s South Entrance Station.

They say Gao was a backseat passenger in the sedan and suffered fatal injuries.

The sedan’s driver and front-seat passenger were taken to Flagstaff Medical
Center for treatment of non-critical injuries. The driver and passenger in the
truck weren’t hurt.

Park officials say sleet and snow was falling in the area at the time of the
accident and may have been a contributing factor.
