BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. (AP) — The Bullhead City Fire Department could get permission as early as next month to allow advertising on its vehicles.
The Mohave Valley Daily News reports fire officials are preparing to address the idea with the fire district’s governing board in March.
Fire officials say the practice could potentially net as much as $85,000 a year, according to Phoenix-based Public Safety Advertising.
Fire Marshal Jim Dykens says nine potential advertisers have already expressed interest in purchasing space. The ads would be placed near or behind the rear wheels of a fire engine, Dykens said. On ambulances, the ads would be on the back. All the advertising would include a disclaimer of what the revenue is funding.
The money would pay for a full-time public education position. Dykens said the department has one employee who is juggling public education and fire inspection duties.
As for the content, Dykens said there has been discussion that the advertisers be related to the health industry, such as hospitals.
Board Chairman David Cummings said he has heard from fire department chiefs in other parts of the state. Most of them said their department benefited from ads.
Board Chairman Jim Zaborsky said he hasn’t yet heard arguments for why the fire department couldn’t try running advertising.
