Passenger apologizes for bus accident west of Phoenix

PHOENIX — A California man accused of attacking the driver of a Greyhound
bus and causing it to go off Interstate 10 in Arizona is apologizing for some of
what happened.

In a jail interview with local TV, 25-year-old Maquel
Morris of Los Angeles denied hitting the driver but said he’s sorry that
passengers were injured when the bus went off the highway west of Phoenix.

Authorities have said Morris struck the driver and attempted to take control of
the steering wheel. The Dallas-bound bus went into the median before passengers helped the
driver regain control. Two dozen people were taken to hospitals.

One passenger described Morris as “berserk” during the incident. Morris was charged with endangerment, aggravated assault and criminal damage.

In the interview, Morris said he’d used methamphetamine several days earlier.
