FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Nearly a decade of work by Flagstaff officials to
acquire 2,251 acres of state trust land for conservation purposes is paying off.
The Arizona Daily Sun reported that the city on Friday
submitted the only bid, one for $11.6 million.
City voters in 2004 approved a bond measure setting $5.5 million aside for
purchasing Observatory Mesa, and the city was awarded $6 million of state money
for the conservation project.
The city planned a public event for summer to celebrate the purchase.
