TUCSON, Ariz. — A Pima County sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a man
described as suicidal.
The Sheriff’s Department said the 46-year-old Scott Mitchell was fatally
wounded Monday at a home where negotiators tried unsuccessfully to get him to
surrender. He had fired multiple shots inside the home, including some that
damaged a robot’s camera.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, the incident started when Mitchell’s
roommate called 911 to ask for a welfare check on Mitchell. She said he was
suffering a mental health crisis and had a firearm.
The Sheriff’s Department said the deputy shot Mitchell when Mitchell fired
shots out of the home and in the direction of law enforcement officers.
