PHOENIX — Phoenix fire crews responded to an apartment fire around 7 p.m. Monday night.
Fire officials said a 4-year-old boy playing with matches is at fault.
The complex located near 16th Street and Thunderbird had smoke showing from the first floor, according to a news release. It was isolated to a closet and was quickly extinguished by firefighters and a sprinkler head.
The child admitted to playing with matches and has been referred to the youth fire setter program.
One adult woman was evaluated for smoke inhalation but refused to be transported to a hospital. A total of three displaced occupants are being assisted by the Phoenix Fire Crisis Unit.
