Man could face manslaughter in fatal Phoenix crash

PHOENIX — Authorities say a young boy injured in a Phoenix car crash has
died and the driver of the other vehicle could be facing a manslaughter charge.

Phoenix police say 3-year-old Eric Garces died in a hospital Monday morning.

He was hurt in Saturday night’s crash along with three adults and two other
children.

Police say the car 19-year-old Edgar Martinez was driving allegedly crossed
into oncoming traffic and hit another vehicle head-on.

Investigators suspect Martinez was under the influence of drugs at the time of
the accident.

He originally was arrested on suspicion of four counts of aggravated assault
and one count of endangerment.

Now that someone has died in the crash, police say Martinez likely will face
manslaughter.

Police didn’t immediately know Monday if Martinez has a lawyer yet.
