PHOENIX — Maricopa County authorities are investigating the death of a
The Sheriff’s Office says 47-year-old Felix Martinez-Torres was discovered
sitting and unresponsive in his cell by employees at the Towers jail facility
Deputy Joaquin Enriquez says CPR was performed, but the inmate was pronounced
dead at a hospital.
Sheriff’s detectives have interviewed Martinez-Torres’ cellmates and an
investigation into the death is continuing.
Martinez-Torres was booked into the jail on Sept. 30 on warrants for driving on
a suspended license and failure to appear.
Jail officials told KPHO-TV that Martinez-Torres had a history of medical
issues and no foul play is suspected.
A cause of death will be determined by the county medical examiner’s office.
