House passes bill to grant retroactive pay to furloughed workers

PHOENIX — The House of Representatives passed a bill Saturday morning in Washington, D.C., to give roughly 800,000 government workers retroactive pay once the government shutdown ends.

ABC 15 reports the bill passed with a 407-0 vote on a rare Saturday session in the House.

The Senate needs to OK the bill first, and the Associated Press said it is expected to be approved. The White House reportedly backs the legislation as well.

The government has been shut down since Tuesday, which was the beginning of the new budget year.

After the bill was passed, members of the House were expected to leave town and not return until Monday.

There is no significant progress in Congress for ending the shutdown.
