PHOENIX — A portion of San Tan Village was evacuated Friday after a suspicious package was found, the Gilbert Fire Department said.
“The package we don’t know a lot about was leaking something and it made one of the employees light-headed and feel sick,” Gilbert Fire Division Chief Brian Ruffentine said, adding that his agency is still working to determine what is leaking out of the package.
The package was delivered to a shoe store. After the employee became ill, the package was placed outside the back entrance of the store.
“We evacuated that shoe store as well as Famous Dave’s and a few of the surrounding suites,” Ruffentine said.
The package was later deemed safe and employees were allowed to return to work. Police are investigating the package.
