TUCSON, Ariz. — The skeleton folk saint known as La Santa Muerte is the
focus of a new Arizona art exhibit.
Sacred Machine Museum in Tucson opened Saturday the “Santa Muerte Music & Arts
Festival” and features work on the death saint from 22 artists from around the
Paula Catherine Valencia, owner and curator of Sacred Machine, said the goal of
the exhibit is to allow artists the freedom to interpret the mysterious saint.
Popular in Mexico, and sometimes linked to the illicit drug trade, La Santa
Muerte in recent years has found a robust and diverse following north of the

The saint was featured in recently in the AMC TV series “Breaking Bad,” which
is filmed in Albuquerque.
The exhibit is open until November.
