Youngtown suing mining company over work noise

YOUNGTOWN, Ariz. — Nearly 800 families in Youngtown are suing a mining
company over work-related noise near their homes.

The homeowners say they can’t stand the daily sound of bulldozers, giant earth
movers and water trucks.

Karen Pine tells Phoenix TV station KNXV that the noise wakes her family as
early as 5 a.m.

Youngtown officials and the Agua Fria Homeowners Association have joined the
lawsuit against Olive Avenue LLC and Salt River Materials Group.

Homeowners Association President Katheryn French says they want mining stopped
because operations are happening less than 50 feet from houses in some places.

Youngtown Mayor Mike LeVault says there’s little the city can do besides take
legal action because the company has a permit.

Salt Rivers Materials Group officials didn’t immediately return a call Friday
about the suit.
