Sitton, voice of UA football, basketball, dies

PHOENIX — Dave Sitton, the longtime voice of University of Arizona
football and basketball games, the school’s rugby coach and one-time
congressional candidate, has died. He was 58.

Julia Strange at Tucson Medical Center says Sitton died there, but she could
not provide further details.

While Sitton ran for the GOP nomination to replace U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords
in Arizona’s 8th Congressional District after the congresswoman was shot and
resigned, he is best known for calling UA football and basketball games from
1990-2012.

Sitton won the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Emmy Award for
basketball in 2010 and for football a year later.

Congressman Ron Barber called Sitton a friend who left “enormous footprints on
the Tucson community and will be deeply missed.”
