PHOENIX — A man accused of fatally punching a 70-year-old homeless man at
a Phoenix bus stop has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder.
Maricopa County prosecutors say 30-year-old Joseph Nicholas Aguilera entered
his plea Wednesday. His initial pretrial conference is scheduled for Sept. 25.
Phoenix police say Aguilera allegedly struck the man at a bus stop near a
convenience store on July 12 for unknown reasons.
They say Aguilera fled the scene and was captured on surveillance video.
Aguilera was later arrested after being identified with help from the public.
The homeless man died in a hospital July 14 and still hadn’t been identified at
