Phoenix man pleads not guilty to attacking mother

PHOENIX — A man accused of stabbing his mother at a Phoenix restaurant and
then attempting to behead her has pleaded not guilty.

Maricopa County prosecutors said 35-year-old Michael Lee Hansen entered his plea
Thursday.

His next scheduled court appearance is Sept. 4.

Hansen was arrested earlier this month after the attack at the Sakura Sushi
and Steakhouse near 70th Street and Mayo Boulevard.

His mother suffered non life-threatening injuries. Her name hasn’t been
released.

Phoenix police said Hansen is accused of punching his mother, knocking her unconscious
and stabbing her around the neck and hands.

Detectives said Hansen admitted to hitting his mother and attempting to cut her
head off.

He also told authorities that the attack stemmed from pornographic
pictures of him.

Police said Hansen was charged with attempted murder and was being held on
$250,000 bond.
