PHOENIX — A family of five narrowly escaped death when their home at 91st Avenue and Buckeye Road caught fire early Thursday morning.
Firefighters believe the 6 a.m. blaze started in the attic from a lightning strike. The fire was quickly contained.
Fire spokesman Troy Caskey said the mother told them that she “heard a loud, thunderbolt type sound,” and awoke to a “crackling noise and bright light” in her bedroom.
She was able to get the family outdoors to safety.
