PHOENIX — The Phoenix Zoo opened voting Thursday to name its new Andean bear cub.
Zookeepers came up with four possible names for the male cub: Arturo (meaning “bear” and “courageous”), Javier (meaning “born in January”), Luka (meaning “light” in reference to markings around the cub’s eyes) and Pepe (meaning “he will grow”).
The public can vote on the name on the zoo’s website or Facebook page through June 30.
The cub was born in early January.
