Grand Canyon Univ. still shopping for Tucson site

TUCSON, Ariz. — Grand Canyon University said it’s still interested in
finding a Tucson site for a branch campus although a city-owned golf course is out of the running.

City officials said El Rio Golf Course on the west side was taken off the
table when Councilwoman Regina Romero withdrew her support because of opposition
from area residents.

Romero represents the area.

University spokesman Bill Jenkins said other potential locations in the Tucson
area remain under consideration by the private school based in Phoenix, but he
wouldn’t specify where.

According to the Arizona Daily Star, Oro Valley
officials have confirmed one is in their town.

Romero said she still hopes Grand Canyon places a campus in the Tucson area
because it would be an economic boon.
