PHOENIX — Sen. John McCain formally requested information from the Department of Homeland Safety on a man suspected of killing a Phoenix police officer on Sunday.
The suspect, Jesus Cabrera-Molina, was jailed in 2011 after being deported and and caught reentering the country. He was released from Immigration and Customs Enforcement in 2012 after posting bond.
Cabrera-Molina is currently being held on felony drug possession.
McCain sent a letter to DHS head Janet Napolitano demanding to know why Cabrera-Molina has not been charged in the crime, if ICE officials shared information with necessary immigration officials and requesting documentation on Cabrera-Molina.
Phoenix police officer Daryl Raetz, 29, was killed in a hit-and-run collision while working a DUI case.
