Giffords, Rep. Barber to speak at US Capitol ceremony

TUCSON, Ariz. — U.S. Rep. Ron Barber and former Arizona congresswoman
Gabrielle Giffords are scheduled to be among the speakers at a ceremony in
Washington, D.C., to honor Gabriel “Gabe” Zimmerman.

The 30-year-old Zimmerman was Giffords’ outreach director until he was killed
in the January 2011 shooting rampage in Tucson.

Six people died and 13 others were wounded, including Giffords and Barber.

Barber replaced Giffords in Congress after she resigned her seat due to her
injuries. Barber won another two-year term in November.

A room in the U.S. Capitol will be dedicated Tuesday to Zimmerman and a bronze
plaque honoring him will be unveiled.

Also expected to speak at the ceremony are Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake and Florida
congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who sponsored the legislation naming the
room in Zimmerman’s honor.
