Sea lion taught to keep a beat

A marine laboratory taught a sea lion to respond to rhythm.

Ronan, a sea lion at the University of California Santa Cruz, was taught to recognize and react to the beat of a song.

This is the first time recorded that an animal other than a human mammal or a parrot have shown rhythmic ability, as it was previously thought that vocal mimicry was necessary to rhythmic ability.
