Garbage truck causes power outage in west Phoenix

PHOENIX — Parts of a west Phoenix neighborhood were without electricity for
several hours Thursday after a garbage truck knocked down power lines.

Authorities said the driver hit the power pole
about 6:30 a.m. when he backed out of the alley to avoid a construction
site.

Phoenix Fire Department officials said the truck driver was stuck in his vehicle
until crews arrived but he was unhurt.

Arizona Public Service officials said 120 customers initially were without
power. They said electricity was restored to all but a few homes and businesses
by late morning with the rest expected to have power back on by afternoon.
