3D-printable gunmaker licensed to manufacture and sell in U.S.

An online sharing community for 3D-printed firearm designs has been granted a U.S federal firearm license to manufacture and sell 3D-printed guns.

According to the Financial Post, Defense Distributed founder Cody Wilson was granted the license Saturday.

Mr. Wilson still requires something referred to as Class 2 Special Occupational Taxpayer (SOT) designation to manufacture parts for a wider range of firearms, including fully-automatic rifles.

3D printers have the ability to cheaply and quickly manufacture plastic objects, which include automatic and semi-automatic guns.

Defense Distributed’s plastic gun parts are typically printed on more expensive professional printers.
