APACHE JUNCTION — A search continues in the Superstition Mountains in Apache Junction for a hiker who was reported missing after she failed to appear at a trailhead.
The Pinal County sheriff’s office says 51-year-old Robin Byrd also was the subject of a December 2012 search in the Superstitions.
On that occasion, Byrd said she was looking for the fabled Lost Duchman’s gold mine when she got lost.
The sheriff’s office says three other hikers who were located early Wednesday after being reported missing Tuesday evening said they’d encountered Byrd earlier that afternoon.
According to the sheriff’s office, those hikers got lost after Byrd gave them the wrong direction to return to the trailhead parking lot.
Byrd still had not been located as of Wednesday night.
