GOP pandering: Will it work?

Feb 7, 2013, 5:57 PM | Updated: 6:28 pm

The Republican Party is facing somewhat of a crisis. They are having trouble winning national elections. It is mostly due to the lack of enthusiastic Latino support. President Barack Obama won their support by 44% in the 2012 election. There’s the crisis.

So the GOP is going overboard to gain favor. A few Republican Senators have signed on to support immigration reform. Their plan includes extending a path to citizenship to illegal immigrants. Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) even admitted this push was due to the most recent election loss. Now, on Tuesday, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) will deliver the State of the Union response in both English and Spanish. It is blatant pandering.

Remember, everything in politics is done on purpose. It’s no wonder Sen. Rubio is giving the SOTU response and it’s no wonder he gave a keynote address during the Republican National Convention. He doesn’t look like most Republicans therefore he gets highlighted. See, Latinos, we support you too. Vote for us. The partial problem is that it is completely obvious. But, the bigger problem is it works. Like a charm.
