Phoenix robber sentenced to prison in murder plot

PHOENIX — A Phoenix man accused of plotting the murder of one of his
robbery victims has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Maricopa County prosecutors said Wednesday that 26-year-old Shaun Tonge will
spend four years on probation following his prison release.

Authorities say Tonge burglarized a Phoenix home in May 2010 while armed with a
handgun stolen days earlier from an off-duty policeman.

He was later arrested and while awaiting trial, authorities say Tonge allegedly
conspired with two men to murder a female victim he had robbed and attacked.

Prosecutors say Tonge allegedly offered an undercover officer $1,000 to kill
the woman so she wouldn’t testify against him.

Tonge pleaded guilty to attempted murder and armed robbery. He was sentenced to
121/2 years on each count, to be served consecutively.
