A Mesa man is headed to jail after allegedly driving a burning truck into a Mesa home.
Witnesses said the man was reportedly siphoning gas out of a neighbor’s truck near Broadway and Signal Butte when his clothes caught on fire.
“He caught part of his clothes on fire and jumped into his pickup truck. As he was driving on to his neighborhood, he lost control of the car,” said Forrest Smith, spokesman for Mesa Fire Department. “Apparently the flames started to spread to the interior of his pickup truck causing him to run his truck up to the house itself.”
Firefighters were able to contain the fire damage to the garage.
The suspected siphoner is in Mesa Police Department’s custody and being treated for his injuries.
