Prescott man sentenced to jail in teenage sex case

PRESCOTT, Ariz. – A Prescott man has been sentenced to a year in jail for
sexual conduct with a minor.

Yavapai County prosecutors say 40-year-old Derek Robert Barnes accepted a plea
agreement in his case.

They say Barnes isn’t get credit for time already served, will be on lifetime
probation term after his jail term and must register as a sex offender.

Barnes originally faced 25 counts of sexual conduct with a 15-year-old girl.

The Daily Courier says Barnes pleaded guilty to four
counts.

Authorities say the girl was a family friend of Barnes, who owns and operates a
video store in Prescott Valley.

They say the teenager helped Barnes with miscellaneous tasks at the store.

Police investigators were told Barnes and the girl began having sexual contact
around November 2010.
