CHANDLER, Ariz. -— Authorities in Chandler say an 11-
year-old boy riding a bicycle has been killed by a
suspected hit-and-run driver who now is in custody.
Chandler police say Aaron Arnold was crossing Arizona
Avenue near Knox Road shortly after noon Friday when he was
struck by a car that left the scene.
The East Valley Tribune reports that area of Arizona Avenue
doesn’t have a crosswalk.
Officers arrived to find the boy lying in the roadway next
to the bicycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by
Chandler Fire Department officials.
Authorities say 24-year-old Ronnie Chavez later returned to
the accident scene with his father and was arrested.
The Chandler resident has been booked into a Maricopa
County jail on suspicion of failure to stop for an accident
involving death.
