An explosion at a Phoenix welding business ignited a two-alarm fire on Thursday near downtown Phoenix, the Phoenix Fire Department said.
The explosion occurred at the Phoenix Welding Supply, which is on Seventh Street, north of Buckeye Road.
About 70 Phoenix Fire units responded to the scene. Seventh Street was closed north of Buckeye Road.
“On arrival, [crews] found every smoke, heavy fire to the back of a small warehouse,” said Phoenix Fire Department Captain Jorge Enriquez. “It looked like, when they made their way back there, that they had some debris back there with some tanks to the back of the warehouse.”
There was debris from the explosion on Seventh Street, including one of the tanks that exploded.
“Crews went ahead and surrounded it and cooled it off,” said Enriquez.
