Mental health debate issue enters Connecticut shooting debate

A mother has taken to the internet to detail what she's had to deal with her 13-year-old son and his struggles with mental illness.
She has two other kids in her house, fears for her family's safety and is pleading for help. She believes her son belongs in jail and needs help coping with his mental illness. She doesn't want to have something similar to what happened in Connecticut, Tucson or Colorado happen with her son, but she fears it will.
How much do you sympathize with this mother? Why aren't we talking about this more as a country?
